Commercial Blenders
A commercial blender is very similar to the food blenders commonly found in kitchens in most homes. The most obvious difference is of course the size of the commercial blender, which is notably bigger. This is due because commercial blenders are designed to be used in commercial kitchens such as restaurants, bars and coffee shops, and therefore handles more volume of food.
Another difference, albeit not obvious, is that commercial blenders utilize a more powerful motor as compared to the common blender. This is so it can handle heavy and frequent use.
The most common use of commercial blenders is of course for mixing drinks such as smoothies and cocktails. Stephen Poplawski in fact invents it in 1922 as a means to make milk shakes such as the Horlicks malted milk shake. Poplawski’s company was eventually sold to Oster Manufacturing in 1946 which further developed Poplawski’s drink mixer to what we now know as the Osterizer – the most popular brand of both commercial and household kitchen blenders.
